The Map-lective is a collective of black and brown women working with the map. We take techniques of personal care embedded in black communities and use them to deal with maps. In dread-locking or braiding the map, we are creating a space for a new understanding of maps. The inaugural work spanning 6 metres was created at the Royal Geographic Society, London. A subsequent piece was made at Chisenhale Studios and exhibited alongside works by Myco-Lective artists Joseph Schofield, Sam Hodge and Feral Practice.
Map-lective was initiated by Sonia E Barrett (Visual artist MA MFA MRSS). Founding members include:  Dr Pat Knoxolo, Dr Tia Moniquem Ava Abeng, Obafeyikemi Luther, Lea Bematol and Bea Tizzy.
